Querkle Plant

Querkle is a hybrid of two well-respected strains, Purple Urkle, an Indica dominant type, and Space Queen, which is Sativa dominant. The name of this strain, which originates from the Netherlands, is a word-play on the ‘urkle’ and ‘queen’ from its two parents.

The Querkle strain has a rich flavour that includes notes of musk, grapes and spice and is reminiscent of a full-bodied red wine. The high comes on quite slowly, but once it hits you’ll experience a strong body stone mixed with some elements of mental stimulation. This is a good smoke to indulge in near bed time, and it fits the bill for those that have trouble sleeping. Beware – you may well find yourself raiding the fridge after a few tokes on this weed.

The Querkle strain grows quite short with broad leaves, with its Indica heritage more strongly apparent than its Sativa background. As the plants mature, the leaves take on a light red to purple hue, with a darker purple dominating as the plant gets close to finishing. Flowering time is seven to eight weeks and the THC content comes in at around 15 percent.

Indoors, it will do well in a soil or hydro and you can achieve good results by using the SOG growing method. As it grows quite bushy, it’s a good idea to thin out the leaves to make sure all parts of the plant get sufficient light. Flowering time is eight to nine weeks and harvest should see a yield of around 400 grams per square metre.

To grow outdoors, start the Querkle seeds off indoors and transplant to their growing plot when the last frosts have passed. It will do best if you grow it somewhere that stays warm until the end of October, when the plants should be ready for harvest.

Querkle is quite easy to grow and so is suitable for the novice gardener. If you enjoy a full flavor with lots of subtle tones and a decidedly narcotic hit, this may well be the weed for you.

I don’t think the name of this strain comes from the Netherlands, as the breeder, Subcool is based and lives in the US. Space Queen is a strain he uses often to create seeds from an elite clone he has acquired, such as Urkel in this case.
