sunset-sherbet-marijuana-strainAs bright and cheerful as its name suggests, Sunset Sherbet is a fun cross between the classic Girl Scout Cookies and Pink Panties, which is believed to be a descendant of Blackberry Kush.  It’s very much an Indica dominant (85%), but the Sativa genetics help to add a light touch as well as a bit of THC.

If you like your weed fruity, then you are just going to love Sunset Sherbet.  It’s packed full of fruity, berry sweetness but there’s citrus and mint in there too.  It’s not all sweetness and light though, both Girl Scout Cookies and Pink Panties have Kush genetics and once you get past the initial hit of fruit, there’s a definite earthy pungency, which gives a polite nod to skunk without being overwhelmed by it.  The aroma is very much fruit, the kush undertones are, however, still there, taking a back seat but not forgotten.

The THC content is generally around 20% although it can range from about 15% to about 24%.  This means that the initial effect is much more in line with what you’d expect from a Sativa than what you’d expect from an Indica.  It’s a clean, crisp, energetic, cerebral high, which sends pain packing and blows away the blues.  Sunset Sherbet is great for pain relief and is particularly recommended for headaches.  It’s also excellent for stress and depression.  After the initial high, however, the Indica genetics really start to come through and you get a wonderful, relaxing body stone, which means Sunset Sherbet also works very well on insomnia.

When it comes to growing Sunset Sherbet there’s mixed news.  Frankly your biggest challenge will probably be to get hold of the seeds in the first place.  Assuming you get past that, the bad news is that this strain currently does not produce particularly inspiring yields.  Indoors, you can expect about 250g/m2 and outdoors around 300g/pp.  Possibly this may improve as the strain is developed.

On the plus side, Sunset Sherbet is really easy and quick to grow.  It’s nicely compact and grows in the typical Indica “Christmas tree” shape.  Appropriately enough, the buds also look rather like miniature Christmas trees and they’re covered in plenty of glittering, white trichomes to add to the effect.  The scent during the flowering period is, however, definitely mint, rather than pine.  Indoors, Sunset Sherbet will finish flowering in about 8 weeks and outdoors it will be ready in late September.
