Indica dominant Purple Lemonade has genetics from purple and citrus Cali along with ruderalis.  It’s a nice, all-round strain which makes a good choice for beginners.

Purple Lemonade has average THC of 22%, which is enough to generate a mood boost, which is relaxing as well as uplifting.  You may feel a bit giggly, but the Indica genetics mean that overall the experience is more mellow than you’d expect from a Sativa with similar THC content.  Having said that, the CBD content is fairly low, which means that body buzz is deeply relaxing and will probably make you feel dreamy or perhaps mildly drowsy but it’s not going to leave you couchlocked for hours at a time.  In other words, this is a very flexible strain which can be used day or night.  Obviously, if you’re using it in the daytime, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to recover before doing anything complicated, such as driving.

As Purple Lemonade is an autoflowering strain, the grow time is 8 to 9 weeks (seed to bud) regardless of whether you grow indoors or outdoors.  In principle, this means that you can grow outdoors whenever you want.  In practice, you’re going to need to keep local weather conditions in mind when you decide when to plant your seeds.  In particular you’ll need to keep your plants dry, as well as warm and sunny, as wet buds are very vulnerable to the dreaded mould.  Alternatively you could split the difference and use a greenhouse, remembering to space out your plants and implement effective odour control.

Purple Lemonade grows to a compact 0.7M to 1.1M and is pretty as well as productive.  You get bright purple buds set off by orange pistils and framed by dark green leaves covered with plenty of glittery resin crystals, which are a slightly-pinkish white.  The buds are clustered in multiple sites around the stem and have great internodal spacing, which makes this strain a good candidate for low-stress training.  Treat Purple Lemonade with a bit of tender loving care and you could harvest as much as 500g/m2 or 450g per plant outdoors.  Beginners might not get quite so much but should still be able to gather a very decent crop.

In terms of flavour and aroma, Purple Lemonade really is essentially lemon all the way, but it’s a mixture of sour lemon and sweet lemon which is crisply refreshing.

Sativa dominant (albeit only just) Sweet Gelato Auto is a cross between San Francisco Bay (California): Gelato and Killer Kush Auto.  Gelato itself is a cross between the famous Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies and Sunset Sherbet while Killer Kush Auto has OG Kush genetics.  Basically, this strain may be fairly new, but it has an impressive pedigree.

Sweet Gelato Auto

Sweet Gelato Auto has average THC levels of 18% to 23% and low CBD (about 0.1%).  It produces a bright, energetic, creative head high, but the anchoring effect of the Indica genetics means that it’s happy and positive rather than out-and-out euphoric.  This transitions into a light body stone, which is very comfortable while it lasts, but won’t leave you couchlocked for extended periods.  Overall, therefore Sweet Gelato Auto is a really flexible strain, which can be used during the day or at night.

Regardless of whether you grow indoors or outdoors, Sweet Gelato Auto will need about 8 weeks to go from seed to bud.  As its growth cycle is governed by age rather than light, it can be grown outdoors at any time of year.  Obviously, however, you’re still going to have to think about the weather in general.  As with most cannabis strains, Sweet Gelato Auto has a distinct preference for warm, dry, sunny conditions.

Although yields are listed below as medium, that’s in comparison to cannabis plants in general.  Given that Sweet Gelato Auto is a pint-sized 0.6M to 1M in height, its yields of up to 500g/m2 (indoors) and 175g per plant (outdoors) are actually pretty impressive.

Overall Sweet Gelato Auto is really beginner-friendly.  In fact it would make a perfect first grow, especially since it is both robust and quick.  The only point to watch is that its buds are very dense (hence the high yields).  This means that they can easily fall victim to mould if they get wet.

It should be easy to avoid this indoors, just space out your plants properly to maintain good air-flow.  Outdoors, you’re going to have to pick your growing site with some care and be ready to dry out your buds manually if they need it.  Alternatively, split the difference and use a greenhouse.

In terms of flavour and aroma, Sweet Gelato Auto has a base of earth and wood, the body is very much Kush and the top notes are a balance of sweet fruits and nuts with touches of citrus and mint.

Purple Punch is a 90% Indica-dominant cross between Grandaddy Purple and Larry OG. It’s a compact, tasty and high-yielding strain.

Image of Purple Punch Cola

Even though Purple Punch is almost pure Indica, it can have up to 25% THC.  This is enough to treat even severe, chronic pain.  The high is a nice chilled, sedative effect which may not be enough to leave you couchlocked.  It will, however, leave you far too comfortable to want to get up.  It’s therefore a good idea to have some snacks and drinks handy.  This level of THC means the marijuana munchies are a given.

Given its Granddaddy Purple heritage, Purple Punch is probably best suited to use at night time.  And is ideal for those that may need a little help getting to sleep.  It also has the muscle needed to treat serious pain such as migraines.  As always, make sure after consuming this strain that you have completely regained your concentration before doing anything complicated, like driving.

Purple Punch can be grown indoors and outdoors.  Indoors, it can stay as short as 90cm.  The average flowering time is 7 to 8 weeks and the yield can be up to 700g/M2.  Outdoors, it can grow up to 1.5M.  The harvest period is mid-/end-September and the yield can be up to 2Kg per plant.  Plants are short and bushy with lots of branches.

When it comes to growing Purple Punch, there are two key points to remember.  Firstly, Indicas like to spread outwards.  This means you have to allow plenty of space for lateral growth.  Remember that a lot of this will happen in a short time, i.e. the latter part of the flowering period.  This means that you want your spacing to be sorted before the plants get too big and heavy to be easy to move.  Secondly, the branches are almost guaranteed to need staking.  The sheer weight of bud will just get too much for them to handle without help.

Other than that, however, Purple Punch is a fairly straightforward grow.  It has good resistance to mould, diseases and pests.  It’s also fairly forgiving of beginner errors.  Basically, the only real challenge is managing light cycles indoors.

In terms of taste and aroma, Purple Punch closely resembles a great fruit pie.  The main fruit is clearly apple.  This is mixed with blueberries and cherries and topped with caramel and cloves.

Gorilla CBD is a 75% Indica-dominant cross between Gorilla and Dinamed Kush CBD.  The name may sound like Gorilla Glue, but it’s actually almost literally the opposite.

As its name suggests, Gorilla CBD was created for its CBD content.  There is only 7% THC, compared to 14% CBD.  In other words, the THC:CBD ratio is 2:1, which is widely regarded as one of the best medical ratios there is.

If at all possible, Gorilla CBD should be kept for use at night.  You will be couchlocked for an extended period.  There is simply no two ways about this.  You may also have the marijuana munchies.  It’s therefore a good idea to have some drinks and snacks handy.  If you want, or need, to medicate in the daytime, then you absolutely must allow sufficient recovery time before doing anything complicated, such as driving.

Bud picture of Dinafem Gorilla CBD

It’s worth noting that the THC content in Gorilla CBD is more than just an incidental result of the crossing.  It serves to provide fast and effective pain relief while the CBD gets to work.  It can also be useful for clearing mental and/or emotional negativity.

Gorilla CBD can be grow indoors and outdoors.  Indoors, the expected height would be in the region of 1.8M.  The flowering time is about 8 to 9 weeks and the yield can be up to 500 g/m2.  Outdoors, the expected height would be in the region of 2.5M.  The outdoor harvest time is around the middle of October and the yield can be up to 1Kg per plant.

The fact that Gorilla CBD is a fairly tall, photoperiod strain means that it’s probably not the best choice for a complete beginner.  Even if you can grow outside, you’ll still have to deal with a big plant with a big appetite.  It’s also important to note that Gorilla CBD really needs a warm, dry, sunny climate to grow happily out of doors.  If you live north of the Mediterranean basin, then you’ll need to pick your growing location with great care.  Alternatively, you could put your plants under glass (or just grow indoors).

On the plus side, Gorilla CBD has good resistance to mould, diseases and pests.  As always, however, this does depend on their being good ventilation in the growing space.  This means that you need to allow space for the plants to spread outwards as well as upwards.

In terms of taste and aroma, Gorilla CBD is a mixture of fuel and Kush.  It’s unusual and very intense.

Cosmic Bomb Auto is an Indica-dominant cross of LSD and Auto Bomb.  It’s compact, tasty and very beginner-friendly.

Even though Cosmic Bomb Auto is an autoflowering strain, it packs in an average of 16% to 20% THC.  That’s some pretty strong pain relief.  It’s also enough to deal with a wide range of emotional and mental conditions.  Added to this, there’s around 2% to 3% CBD.  This means that couchlock is all but guaranteed.  You’ll therefore want to be ready with some drinks and snacks.

Overall, Cosmic Bomb Auto is really best suited to use in the evening.  The THC will quickly clear any pain.  It will also clear your head of any negativity.  Then the CBD will get to work to provide long-lasting pain relief and total relaxation for mind and body.  If you do have to use this strain in the daytime, make sure that your concentration has fully returned before you do anything complicated, like driving.

Cosmic Bomb Auto can be grown indoors and outdoors.  In either case it takes about 9 weeks to go from seed to bud.  There is no outdoor harvest period as such.  You will, however, have to think about your local weather.  Basically, you’ll need to be able to keep your plants warm and dry for 9 weeks.  Alternatively, put them under glass or grow indoors.

This strain has a growing range of about 0.9M (indoor minimum) to 1.4M (outdoor maximum).  Indoors, Cosmic Bomb Auto could deliver up to 600g/m² and outdoors you could harvest up to 200g per plant.

As with most autoflowering strains, Cosmic Bomb Auto seems to have been created with beginners in mind.  There’s no lightcycles to manage, you’re unlikely to need to do plant training and the strain has good resistance to mould, diseases and pests.  It’s also fairly tolerant of a bit of rough handling.  In fact, all you really have to do is remember your marijuana basics.  Above all, you absolutely must remember the importance of good ventilation.  Good odour control is also highly recommended.  Cosmic Bomb Auto may be small, but it can kick up a mighty smell towards the end of the flowering period.

Even though its name references space, the taste of Cosmic Bomb Auto is actually very earthy.  This earthiness is, however, balanced with the crisp sweetness of fruit.  There’s also a touch of Skunk in the flavour but not really the aroma.

Banana Bomb is an 80% Indica cross between THC Bomb and Banana Kush.  It tastes great and is very easy to grow (for a photoperiod strain).

Even though it’s mostly Indica, Banana Bomb has average THC of 20% to 22%.  This is enough to deliver some serious pain relief.  It’s also enough to deal with many emotional and/or mental conditions.  The high is a bit more mellow than you’d expect from a Sativa with the same THC content.  It’s happy and motivational rather than a full-on mental sugar-rush.  Average CBD content is around 0.5% to 1%.  This may leave you mildly couchlocked.  It probably won’t last long, but you’ll still want some drinks and snacks handy.

The THC:CBD ratio makes Banana Bomb a nicely flexible strain which can be used day or night.  Obviously, you’ll need to make sure that you’re fully refocused before doing anything complicated, especially driving.

Banana Bomb is suited to both indoor- and outdoor-growing and will also be perfectly happy in a greenhouse.  Indoors, plants generally reach around 1.4M.  The flowering time is 7 to 9 weeks and the yield is up to 600g/m2.

Outdoors, plants can get a lot taller.  For, a lot taller, read double the size.  In other words, outdoor plants can easily reach 3M.  In fact, if growing conditions are really good, they can even get a bit taller.  The outdoor harvest is around about the end of September or start of October.  One major advantage of bigger plants is that they have physical space for bigger yields.  What this means in practical terms is that outdoor growers could collect as much as 500g per plant.

Banana Bomb has good resilience to mould, diseases and pests.  It’s also fairly tolerant of a bit of poor handling.  It is not, however, at all tolerant of poor air flow or poor weather.

To ensure good air flow, make sure you leave enough space for your plants to grow outwards as well as upwards.  This strain is basically Indica and it will spread, a lot.

You can’t ensure good weather, but you can choose a sheltered growing space.  In fact, if you are growing towards the northern end of Europe you may want to grow under glass.  Basically do whatever it takes to protect your plants from wind and rain.

In terms of taste and aroma, Banana Bomb is essentially a gloriously rich and creamy spiced banana custard.  The spices are warm, Kush spices, hash rather than Haze.

Venom OG is a 70% Indica-dominant cross between Poison OG and Rare Dankness #1.  This strain can have very variable THC.  That means it’s important to know both your seed source and your marijuana basics.

The THC content of Venom OG can range between 11% and 28%.  For the most part, however, it’s likely to be in the 15% to 20% range.  This  is still plenty to treat a wide range of conditions.  The prevalence of Indica genetics means the high is relatively restrained.  It’s happy and upbeat but still fairly chilled.  CBD content is typically between 0.1% and 1%.  At the lower end, this is unlikely to leave you couchlocked, but will leave you very relaxed.  At the upper end, you may find that you struggle to get up for a bit.  In either case, be prepared with something to snack on and some water.

One key point to understand about Venom OG is that it does tend to take its own good time to get to work.  Realistically, you can expect to need to wait about 15 minutes before you feel anything.  Once it does get going, however, you will certainly notice it.  Interestingly, for all its Indica genetics, it does tend to leave people fairly clear-headed.  That said, you will need to ensure you are fully refocussed before doing anything complicated, like driving.  Overall Venom OG is a nicely flexible strain which can be used day or night.

Indoors, Venom OG will typically grow to about 1.5M in height.  It needs 7 to 8 weeks of flowering and can deliver up to 400g/m2.  Outdoors it tends to grow to around 2M.  The harvest period is late September to early October and it can deliver up to 550g per plant.  Like most marijuana strains, Venom OG definitely prefers a warm, dry, sunny climate.  North of the Mediterranean basin, it’s important to choose a very sheltered growing site.

As previously mentioned, the exact THC content of Venom OG will depend partly on genetics and partly on how it is grown.  Basically, the longer you leave the plants to mature, the more THC they will have. There does come a point, however, when the THC “maxes out” and the returns diminish.

The taste of Venom OG clearly references the Kush family.  The base is of earth and hash spices.  There’s also a clear note of fuel.  This is all topped with fresh citrus lemon and menthol pine.

Giant Skittlez is a cross between Zkittlez and Critical Mass.  The basic idea was to create a strain with the taste of Zkittlez and the yields of Critical Mass.

Even though Giant Skittlez is an Indica dominant, it has average THC of 22% to 25%.  This is enough for heavy-duty pain relief.  It’s also enough to deal with very negative emotional states.  Basically, it’s a bit more chilled and a bit less bursting with energy.  As the head high fades, you’ll start to feel a light body buzz.  There’s only about 0.02% CBD in Giant Skittlez.  This means you’ll feel snug and cosy rather than couchlocked. It is, however, still a good idea to be prepared for the inevitable marijuana munchies.  Have some snacks and water ready to save yourself the effort of needing to get up.

Overall, Giant Skittlez is probably best suited to use in the day time.  You could even use it as a “wake-and-bake” strain, although it wouldn’t be our first choice.  We’d see this strain more as being one for using as needed during the day.  For example, you could reach for Giant Skittlez if you started to feel a migraine coming on.  You could probably get away with using this strain in the evening to clear your head before going to bed.  If, however, you’re specifically looking to treat regular insomnia, we’d say there are better options out there.

The taste of Giant Skittlez is pretty much identical to the taste of regular Zkittlez.  So basically, it’s fruity sweetness all the way.  Specifically, there’s berries, grapes and tropical fruits, balanced with tangy citrus, especially grapefruit.  The only connection with Critical Mass is that Critical Mass also has citrus notes.

Having just said that, regular Zkittlez is a balanced hybrid.  Giant Skittlez, however, is an Indica dominant, like Critical Mass.  In fact, Giant Skittlez looks (and grows) very much like Critical Mass.  It’s a smidgeon taller.  Critical Mass has an average height of about 1.65M whereas Giant Skittlez has an average height of about 1.9M.  That is getting on the taller side for an Indica dominant.  It is, however, still within the bounds of “medium-sized” when looking at cannabis plants in general.  Like most Indica dominants, Giant Skittlez is fairly bushy.  It is therefore absolutely vital that you allow space for plants to spread outwards as well as upwards.

Give your plants some basic care and you can be rewarded with excellent yields.  Indoor growers can collect up to 650g/m2.  Outdoor growers can look at 650g per plant, or maybe even more!

Fast Master is a cross between Critical XXL and Early Skunk.  It offers excellent yields in next to no time.

Even though Fast Master is an Indica dominant, it offers an average of 22% to 24% THC.  This is some serious pain relief.  It’s also a bright and buzzy yet chilled head high.  The feeling is like you being you on your best possible day.  The head high will gradually transition into a full-body buzz thanks to the 0.8% CBD.  You’re unlikely to be couchedlocked, but you will be too comfortable to want to get up.  Do yourself a favour and have some water and snacks to hand.  Fast Master has enough THC to guarantee the marijuana munchies.

Overall Fast Master is a very flexible strain, which can be used during the day or in the evening.  Obviously, in the daytime, you’ll need to make sure you’re fully focused before doing anything complicated.

The taste of Fast Master is dominated by citrus lemon and lime together with menthol pine and this is balanced with a dash of pungency.  It’s definitely one to make your mouth water.

Fast Master has an average height of 1.9M.  It can grow a bit taller outdoors, but probably not by much.  In other words, it’s fairly reasonably sized as compared to cannabis strains in general.  It’s also nicely responsive to plant training.  That means if your growing space is small, you can bring its height down a bit.  Fast Master won’t be taking up space indoors (or outdoors) for very long.  It flowers in a very impressive 6 to 8 weeks.  The outdoor harvest period is early to mid-September.  This will come as excellent news to growers towards the north of Europe (and maybe even beyond).

With Critical XXL as a parent, you’d expect Fast Master to be heavy yielding.  You’d be right.  In fact, you’d be very right.  Indoors, you can easily collect 650 g/m2.  Outdoors, you could be looking at as much as 1.5kg per plant.  The icing on the cake is that Fast Master is superbly robust.  It was specifically bred to have excellent resistance to mould, diseases and pests.

We classed Fast Master as being moderately difficult to grow because it is a photoperiod strain.  This means that indoor growers have to manage light cycles.  As long as you’re comfortable with that, Fast Master is super-easy to grow.  It would be a great choice for anyone “moving up” from autoflowering strains.

Colossal Purps is a cross between Grandaddy Purps and Elephant Bud.  It retains much of the characteristics of Grandaddy Purps but has the yield of Elephant Bud.

Sativa dominant Colossal Purps has average THC of 21% to 22%.  This is enough to deliver meaningful pain relief for a wide variety of conditions.  It’s also enough to deliver a refreshing and energizing high.  Average CBD content is 0.2% to 0.4%.  This is enough to make you very comfortable rather than couchlocked.  You’ll still want to be prepped for the marijuana munchies.  It’d be a shame to spoil that lovely, relaxing feeling by having to get up.

As you’ve probably guessed, Colossal Purps is really one for the daytime.  In fact, it’s a great “wake-and-bake” strain.  Alternatively, you can just use it whenever you need fast-acting pain (or mood) relief.  You’d probably be fine using Colossal Purps to clear your head before bedtime.  If, however, you’re looking specifically for an “insomnia strain”, then we’d look elsewhere.

The taste of Colossal Purps is rather unusual.  There’s lots of fruit, especially berries and grapes.  That ties in with both parents.  There is also, however, a generous dash of Haze spices, which presumably comes from the Elephant Bud side.  In other words, Colossal Purps really is one to make your mouth water.

In spite of the name, we’d say Colossal Purps was actually just medium/tall.  Indoors, you’re looking at 1.9M to 2.1M.  Outdoors, however, this strain can push up to 3M.  Interestingly, Colossal Purps is only slightly Sativa dominant.  This means it grows outwards almost as much as it grows upwards.  It’s therefore really important to space your plants well apart from each other.  Indoor growers should also be prepared to do some plant training.  Both indoor and outdoor growers will also need to think about leaving space for plant supports, at least during the latter part of the flowering period.

Colossal Purps is a very branchy strain.  There are lots and lots of main colas.  In fact, towards the end of the flowering period, it can look like there’s a lot more bud than branches to hold it.  In fact, that can literally be the case, hence the need for support.  Basic yields are very generous.  Indoors, you can collect up to 750g/m2.  Outdoors you can collect at least 750g per plant.  Add in some plant training and you can collect even more.
