Indica dominant Black DOG is a cross between Blackberry Kush and Emerald Headband (which is itself a cross between California Sour Diesel X Emerald OG). Although a relatively young strain, it is widelyblack-dog-marijuana-strain admired for its effects, flavour, attractive appearance and easy growth.

The taste and aroma of this variety is headlined by grapes, berries and oil, but this is plenty of rich, satisfying body to this weed. Even though the name omits any reference to its Kush heritage, this is very definitely still a Kush-based strain and is backed by Sour Diesel. If you like your weed sweet but with a bit of smooth dankness to it, then you’re probably going to love Black DOG.

THC levels are more than respectable for an Indica dominant, coming in at around 16% to 21%. This means that the initial effect will be a dose of effective and rapid pain relief, which will be followed by that lovely Indica stone. This is what could be called an “unwinding” weed. Once that initial THC hit has dissolved, the effect of this strain will be to unravel pain and ease away emotional issues. It is effective for insomnia, but in and of itself is more likely to leave you feeling pleasantly dozy than totally couch (or bed) locked. Hence, although it’s really best kept for when you have time to relax and sleep, at a pinch it could be used in the day time, as long as you leave a decent amount of time for the effects to wear off.

In terms of growing, there are two key points to remember. Firstly, while this strain may smell great in a joint, it has a pretty strong scent on the plant too, so filtering and/or strategic positioning is essentially a must. Secondly, even though this strain can be grown outdoors, it is best kept for warmer climates. Outdoor growers in northern Europe should probably look elsewhere. Otherwise, Black DOG is about as easy to grow as you can possibly get and really looks good as well. It has gorgeous purple leaves and develops a covering of glittering trichomes too. Yields are a respectable 400 – 500 grams per m2.

My black dog is still in the veggie stage. This is very easily the best growing plant I have ever grown. It pushes out tons of veggitation fast and stays dark green in color. I can,t wait for flowing time and harvest.
