Orange Bud

Originally from California, Orange Bud made its way to the Netherlands and Amsterdam coffee shops in the 1980s. This strain, an 80 percent Sativa and 20 percent Indica hybrid, gets its name from the distinctively orange hue of the mature buds and its orange flavor. Orange Bud weed took second place in the Bio section of the Cannabis Cup in 1994.

When smoked, this marijuana has a markedly fruity flavor with orange predominating and its aroma closely matches the taste. Orange Bud gives a strong high with lucid, almost trippy, effects followed by a mellow, relaxing comedown. In medical use, the plant can alleviate stress and help with chronic pain.

Orange Bud weed attains a height of one metre and has light-green spiky leaves. The dense, fluffy buds have orange hairs and a coating of sparkling THC crystals. The THC content of the buds is around 15 percent.

This plant is best suited for indoor growing although outdoor cultivation is possible in warmer climates. Indoors, it responds well to a hydroponic set-up using the SCROG or SOG method. It also does well in a greenhouse setting grown in containers filled with rich compost. Indoor yields are up to 400 grams per square metre after a flowering period of eight weeks. Outdoors, the plants are ready for harvest in early October.
