Platinum Kush

Platinum Kush is a popular weed in the California medical marijuana circles. It’s an Indica dominant strain that is the result of crossing an Afghani Indica with Master Kush, which took first place in the Hydro section of the 1994 High Times Cup.

This weed burns with a skunky, earthy smell and the flavor is smooth and sweetish, with notes of pine, berries and citrus. The effects come on quickly after inhaling, and start with a heavy body hit that then gives way to a relaxing, almost narcotic high that can last for two hours and more. This is a powerful weed and more than a couple of hits often lead to couchlock. Medical dispensaries prescribe it for nausea, stress and insomnia.

This strain grows to a height of around one metre and it’s a bushy strain with shortish leaves that become quite dark as the plant matures. The medium-sized buds are dense and are covered in a sparkling layer of crystals and also have orange to brown hairs. THC content can be as high as 22 percent.

This strain will do well in an indoor set-up in either hydro or soil and it particularly favours the SOG method. The plants have good resistance to mould and mildew. Flowering time is eight to nine weeks and with the right growing conditions, it can produce yields of up to 500 grams per square metre.

Platinum Kush seeds produce quite hardy plants so you can grow it in cooler northern climes. Just make sure the threat of frost has passed before you plant it out and choose a sheltered spot that gets plenty of sunshine. Plants should be ready for harvest in late September or early October.
