Purple Queen – Royal Queen Seeds
Purple Queen really does have some regal lineage, namely Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani. This strain does not, however, just trade on the names of its famous parents. It offers great taste, THC and yield.
Although Purple Queen is 75% Indica, it offers a solid 22% THC. The pain relief is everything you would expect from this statistic, but the head high is rather more chilled than the THC level itself might suggest. Think motivated and inspired rather than on an energy rush and bursting with joy. Similarly, the Indica stone is slightly lighter than you might expect. It’s still deeply relaxing and comforting, but won’t pin you down for quite as long as a full Indica would. Having said that, we’d still say this strain was best kept for night-time use. If you must use it during the day, allow a decent amount of recovery time.
Purple Queen needs just 7 to 8 weeks to flower indoors and has an outdoor harvest period of early October. In principle, it will grow equally well indoors or outdoors. The deal maker (or breaker) is your climate. It needs to be warm and dry for this strain to be happy, otherwise put it under glass or bring it indoors.
Indoors, Purple Queen tends to stay fairly compact, with a growing range of about 0.8M to 1.2M. Outdoors, however, it can get surprisingly big for an Indica dominant with a growing range of about 1.75M to about 2.1M. You can see this height difference reflected in the yields. Indoor growers could achieve up to 500g/m2 whereas outdoor growers can collect up to 700g per plant as larger plants have more room for bud sites. Regardless of whether you grow indoors or outdoors, keep in mind that Indicas like to spread outwards as well as upwards so don’t overfill your growing space or you’ll be tempting mould.
This would be a great shame as the only reason we’ve classed Purple Queen as being moderately difficult to grow is the fact that it’s a photoperiod strain. Otherwise this strain is adaptable, reliable and robust. It will grow in soil or hydroponics, can survive beginner mistakes such as overfeeding, has great resistance to mould, diseases and pests and to top it all has beautiful purple flowers.
In terms of flavour and aroma, Purple Queen has base notes of diesel and sweet wood, topped off with menthol pine and sweet citrus.
