Dark Star
Review
Dark Star marijuana is an Indica dominant weed combining two well-known cannabis strains, Purple Kush and Mazar-I-Sharif. The latter strain was second in the Indica section of the 1999 High Times Cannabis Cup. The name ‘Dark Star’ is best known as the title of a 1968 Grateful Dead classic, a song which for many fans epitomised the zeitgeist of the band.
Dark Star weed has an earthy aroma and the flavor displays notes of pine and citrus with a hint of nuttiness. The high is typically Indica with a heavy body stone; it’s not recommended for daytime use if there’s things you need to do but it makes a good evening smoke when you’ve time to relax with some music or a film. Medical practitioners recommend this weed for insomnia and poor appetite.
The plants grow to a height of between 100 and 120 centimetres with robust side stems and one main cola growing from the centre. Leaves are broad and dark green while the heavy buds are dense, sticky with resin and covered in a layer of pinkish hairs. THC level has been measured in the lab at 11.4 percent.
Indoors, a Dark Star grow is a little slower than most Indicas and flowering time is as long as nine to 10 weeks. This weed grows equally well in soil or hydro and yields are between 400 and 500 grams per square metre.
This is a hardy plant so you can grow it outdoors in a normally warm northern European summer.
If you like an old-school Indica hit, Dark Star marijuana will definitely appeal to you. As its hippy era name suggests, this weed has an almost retro feel to it.
