The “Black” in Black D.O.G. refers to parent strain Blackberry Kush and the “D.O.G.” part presumably refers to the OG Kush lineage via the other parent,Black dog marijuana strain Emerald Headband, which was created by crossing California Sour Diesel with Emerald OG.  As you might have guessed from this lineage, while Black D.O.G. itself is a fairly modern strain, it has a very classic lineage.

With an average THC range of 16% to 21%, Black D.O.G. is strong enough to provide meaningful pain relief and/or mood relief for a variety of conditions without being so potent that the average patient would be likely to find it overpowering.  In addition to the fact that it has moderate THC, it’s also worth noting that this strain is 90% Indica, which means that the high is less energetic and euphoric and more mellow, chilled and “zened out”, although the 10% Sativa genetics do lighten up the experience somewhat.  As you would expect from a strain with such a high level of Indica genetics, the high transitions gently into a warm, deeply comforting and soothing full-body stone, so be prepared for an extended period of couch lock and make sure that you are fully awake and focused again before doing anything complicated.

Indoors, Black D.O.G. will be ready after about 8 weeks and the outdoor harvest is around the end of September or start of October.  While your local climate will dictate how feasible outdoor growing is for you, if you have a choice, outdoor growing may be preferable for the simple reason that Black D.O.G. does like to grow big and tall.  You can expect a good 30% stretch during the flower cycle and even indoors plants will easily stretch up to two metres (and possibly beyond) if left to their own devices.  Outdoors they can easily grow closer to 3 metres in height.   If you are tight on space indoors, you can still grow Black D.O.G. as long as you are prepared to get to grips with plant training, to which this strain is very responsive.  The good news is that big plants tend to mean big yields and it holds true here.  Indoor growers can expect up to 500g/m2 and outdoor growers can expect at least 1Kg per plant, experienced growers with particularly good soil could get as much as 3Kg per plant.

In terms of flavour and aroma, Black D.O.G. is based on diesel but there are also notes of berries, especially grapes and, of course, a decent helping of Kush spices.
