Kwazulu Marijuana StrainLandrace Sativa Kwazulu has a long and prestigious history of cultivation in the Drakensberg area of South Africa. It is now gaining appreciation on a wider stage thanks to its robustness, compactness and medical benefits.

With THC levels in the range of about 17% to about 20%, Kwazulu is strong enough to deal with many physical and mental conditions, but mild enough to be comfortable to a wide range of people. As it’s a pure Sativa it has minimal CBD, so you won’t really experience a stone, instead the head high will simply glide down into a general feeling of happy relaxation. This means that although Kwazulu has all the traits of a day-time strain, it could feasibly be used in the evening without ruining your chances of getting any sleep.

In principle, Kwazulu can be grown indoors or outdoors. In practice, true outdoor growing is only likely to be a realistic option in the Mediterranean basin, although growers towards the northern end of continental Europe might be able to split the difference and use a greenhouse to combine free sunlight with protection from the elements.

Indoors Kwazulu will need eight to nine weeks of flowering time, which is pretty quick for a pure Sativa and the outdoor harvest is mid October. Faster-growing strains do tend to have more moderate harvests than slower-growing ones, so, in that context up to 300 g/m2 indoors and up to 500g per plant outdoors actually pretty reasonable, all the more so when you consider that Kwazulu is very compact for a Sativa with a growing range of about 1.5M (indoor minimum) to about 2.5M (outdoor maximum).

We’ve classed Kwazulu as moderately difficult to grow for two reasons. Firstly, it’s a photoperiod strain, hence, you need to be confident with managing lights and light cycles if you’re going to grow indoors. Secondly, even though it’s compact for a Sativa, it can still get fairly tall with everything that implies in terms of watering, feeding, airflow-management and plant training. On the plus side, it has excellent resistance to mould, diseases and pests and is about as unfussy as can reasonably be expected of any plant this size.

In terms of taste and aroma, Kwazulu is fruity sweet and lightly spicy, some people say it has an aniseed flavour. The aroma is pretty intense, so please be considerate about where and when you smoke and/or perhaps consider vaping as an alternative.
