Phantom OG – Barneys Farm
As you’ve probably guessed, the OG in Phantom OG is, of course, OG Kush. The “Phantom” part is Phantom Cookies, which has nothing whatsoever to do with Girl Scout Cookies, it is actually a cross between Granddaddy Purple and Cherry Pie.
Although Phantom OG is only just Sativa dominant (55%), it still has solid 20% to 24% THC. This means it can offer fast and effective relief from physical pain and negative emotional states. The balanced genetics mean that the high is upbeat, rather than energy blasting and euphoric. This head buzz mellows smoothly into a light but comfortable body buzz. Think refreshing snooze rather than Sleeping Beauty. Overall this is a flexible strain, which can be used day or night.
Phantom OG has an indoor flowering time of 8 to 9 weeks and an outdoor harvest period of mid October. In theory it can be grown equally well indoors and outdoors. In practice, this strain does like to be in the warm and dry, so the further north you live the more likely it is that it would be better off indoors. Even in a greenhouse, you might need to think about supplementing natural light with grow lights later on in flowering.
For all the Sativa genetics, Phantom OG is actually quite compact. You can expect a height range of between 1.2M indoor minimum and 1.5M outdoor maximum. Indoor growers can expect up to 400g/m2 and outdoor growers up to 650g per plant. We think this is pretty reasonable given its compact height.
We’ve classed Phantom OG as moderately difficult to grow because it is a photoperiod strain, which means indoor growers will need to manage light cycles. In general, however, this is a very robust and unfussy strain, with the benefit of some really great genetics behind it. Strains based on OG Kush tend to be very reliable and Phantom OG is a good example of this. It would certainly be a good choice for anyone moving on from autoflowering strains and/or anyone who wants a short, low-maintenance Sativa dominant.
In terms of taste and aroma, Phantom OG really is a winner. The flavour has a rich and satisfying nutty base topped off with sweet berries and a hint of citrus freshness. The scent is based on earth rather than nuts and has top notes of lemon, pine and mint.
