Cherry OG
Cherry OG a balanced hybrid, combines a cerebral high with a satisfying body stone. Created from Cherry Thai, Afghani, and Lost Coast OG, Cherry OG keeps the diesel base but takes the edge off with fruity sweetness. It’s a great all-round weed, which is particularly recommended for anxiety and insomnia.
The mighty OG Kush has given rise to a number of descendants, which generally aim to keep the best of the OG Kush effect, but adapt the flavour and improve ease of growth and yield. Cherry OG swaps out the citrus flavours of OG Kush for cherry ones, is easy to grow and offers excellent yields. The clue is in the name, this is a strain for people who are fans of cherry. For all the berry sweetness of its flavour, however, this variety has depth to its taste. Cherry OG offers hints of herbs, spices, an edge of menthol to its top notes and a base of earth and diesel. The aroma is somewhat less complex, being mainly cherry with an undercut of earth and diesel. Cherry OG has won praise for its smooth smoke, which is as easy on the throat.
As is typical of balanced hybrids, the Cherry OG experience starts with a head high. With around 19%-22% THC, this Cherry OG has enough power to get you out of the doldrums and to deal with any pain you may have been experiencing. However, it still stays within what could be called the cannabis comfort zone, rather than blasting you into the stratosphere without a seatbelt. As the high eases off, you transition gently into an Indica body stone. Again, this is deep enough to ease you out of your cares, aches and pains without leaving you totally incapacitated for extended periods. If you use it at night, when you are already tired and just need some help to get to sleep, then Cherry OG is a great choice.
The original OG Kush can be something of a challenge to grow and Cherry OG is a big improvement in this regard, plus it offers bigger yields. Cherry OG is on the taller side for modern strains and hence needs a bit longer to grow, typically around the 9-10 week mark. This means that although technically it can be grown outdoors, in reality the early-mid/October harvest may make growing it outside a bit of a gamble for growers outside of the sunniest of Mediterranean climates. Indoor growers may want to get to grips with plant training, to help keep Cherry OG’s height down, but in general this is a robust strain and requires little effort apart from catering to its healthy appetite. As is usual with bigger, slower-growing plants, it tends to produce large yields.
