Purple Punch is a 90% Indica-dominant cross between Grandaddy Purple and Larry OG. It’s a compact, tasty and high-yielding strain.

Even though Purple Punch is almost pure Indica, it can have up to 25% THC.  This is enough to treat even severe, chronic pain.  The high is a nice chilled, sedative effect which may not be enough to leave you couchlocked.  It will, however, leave you far too comfortable to want to get up.  It’s therefore a good idea to have some snacks and drinks handy.  This level of THC means the marijuana munchies are a given.

Given its Granddaddy Purple heritage, Purple Punch is probably best suited to use at night time.  And is ideal for those that may need a little help getting to sleep.  It also has the muscle needed to treat serious pain such as migraines.  As always, make sure after consuming this strain that you have completely regained your concentration before doing anything complicated, like driving.

Purple Punch can be grown indoors and outdoors.  Indoors, it can stay as short as 90cm.  The average flowering time is 7 to 8 weeks and the yield can be up to 700g/M2.  Outdoors, it can grow up to 1.5M.  The harvest period is mid-/end-September and the yield can be up to 2Kg per plant.  Plants are short and bushy with lots of branches.

When it comes to growing Purple Punch, there are two key points to remember.  Firstly, Indicas like to spread outwards.  This means you have to allow plenty of space for lateral growth.  Remember that a lot of this will happen in a short time, i.e. the latter part of the flowering period.  This means that you want your spacing to be sorted before the plants get too big and heavy to be easy to move.  Secondly, the branches are almost guaranteed to need staking.  The sheer weight of bud will just get too much for them to handle without help.

Other than that, however, Purple Punch is a fairly straightforward grow.  It has good resistance to mould, diseases and pests.  It’s also fairly forgiving of beginner errors.  Basically, the only real challenge is managing light cycles indoors.

In terms of taste and aroma, Purple Punch closely resembles a great fruit pie.  The main fruit is clearly apple.  This is mixed with blueberries and cherries and topped with caramel and cloves.

What if your plant appears to be budding early? How and where do you prune or top to prevent early budding?
